Upgrade of Lightning Arrestor and Earthing System

Project Overview

Following reports of lightning strikes leading to some asset damage, the team investigated the integrity of the earthing grid and lightning arresters of the flow station, the control room, MCCs, generator house, tank farm and accommodation area, to establish their reliability against lightning strikes. The team designed, and installed an upgraded lightning arrester using the cutting edge indelec prevectron arresters fitted with surge counters, standard size of 25x2mm flat copper strip appropriately sized down conductors were properly terminated. Acceptable values from the earth resistance tests were obtained and the issue was successfully resolved.
